Ex-Everton player Don Hutchison hits back at Neal Maupay after the Toffees have been kicked out

Former Everton captain Don Hutchison has hit back at Neal Maupay following the forward’s recent social media post in which he hit out at the Toffees.

Hutchison branded Maupay, who is on loan at Marseille from Everton, a “failure” after the striker targeted the Merseyside club at the X following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest.

Maupay, of trolling fame, who previously posted a Shawshank Redemption meme after leaving Goodison Park this summer, wrote: “Whenever I’m having a bad day I just look at the Everton score and smile.”

Although the 28-year-old is technically still owned by the Blues, Marseille have an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer, meaning he has played his last game for Everton.

Hutchison, who played for the Toffees in the Premier League between 1998 and 2000, shot back: “Obviously Everton are living rent-free in their head.

“Take heart, Everton fans, knowing that every night he thinks about what a failure he is and that he couldn’t handle playing for such a big club.”

Hutchison was not the only one to publicly criticize Maupay for his post.

Ex-boxer Tony Bellew, who supports Everton, responded to X with: “P***k!”, while another Toffees fan, ex-Swansea City striker Lee Trundle, added: “You played for a club mate, have some respect as a former player. Saying so [you are] part of the problem.”

Maupay signed for Everton from Brighton in 2022 for an undisclosed fee. During his time at Goodison Park, he scored one Premier League goal in 29 appearances.

He has featured regularly under Roberto de Zerbi at Marseille this term, making 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists.

De Zerbi’s team is currently second in Ligue 1, ten points behind leaders PSG.
