BERLIN (Reuters) – The year 2024 was the hottest on record, a spokesman for the World Meteorological Organization said ahead of the release of a comprehensive report later on Friday that includes findings from several regional climate monitoring institutes.
The findings, due to be published at 5pm Geneva time (1600 GMT), will compare findings from meteorological observatories in Britain, China, the EU and the US, said WMO spokeswoman Clare Nullis.
“The WMO will confirm later today that 2024 was the warmest year on record,” she told a news conference in Geneva.
“We have seen extraordinary land and sea surface temperatures, extraordinary ocean heat, accompanied by very extreme weather that has affected many countries around the world, destroying lives, livelihoods, hopes and dreams,” she added.
