Farke must sell Leeds ace who earns more than Louie Barry & Latte Lath
With only 20 games remaining in the 2024/25 season Priority campaign, Leeds United they are taking care of a potential return to the Premier League after a two-year absence.
Daniel FarkeThe team is currently at the top of the tree, a point ahead of Burnley and Sheffield United, and away games against both sides are yet to come between now and the end of the season.
A number of players have caught the eye of the Whites in recent weeks, contributing massively to their recent success, which has seen them go on a ten-game unbeaten run at home at Elland Road.
Ao Tanaka has been superb since his summer arrival, scoring his first goal in last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Hull City – he looks to be worth more than 3.5 million pounds were set aside for his signature.
However, if they are to secure a return to England’s top flight at the end of May, it is crucial that the board continue to back the boss, potentially delving into the transfer market for new players.
Leeds United’s transfer activity so far in January
Strikers have been at the center of attention for Farke’s side in recent days, with the first coming in the form of the Aston Villa youngster Louie Barrywith Leeds have an interest in landing the 21-year-old.
The forward spent the first half of the season on loan at Premier League Stockport County, scored 15 times in 23 gameswhich led to his parents recalling him with a view to a Championship loan.
Derby County are another side in the race to land the former Barcelona youth star, but it remains to be seen where they will end up by the end of the month.
Another player boasted of moving to Yorkshire is Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath following his impressive form during the opening months of 2024/25.
The 26-year-old scored ten times in the second tier of Englandwhich has sparked interest from West Ham and Leicester City – but the Whites have also entered the race for his services in recent days.
It should a fee in the region of £15m for Michael Carrick to part with his star man, a fee that could potentially be out of Farke’s price range in this window.
However, funds could be generated if they offload a number of players, with several names already touted for a move away from Elland Road in the early days of the window.
A player Leeds could sell alongside Illan Meslier
Gatekeeper Illan Meslier produced numerous errors in recent games which have massively cost the club countless points in their quest for promotion.
The encounter with Hull last weekend was another example of his recent failings, at fault for at least two of the three goals, costing the side at key moments in the campaign.
Manchester United were previously associated with the move get hold of the Frenchman and Farke must cash in on him at this point and try to bring in a more experienced option to secure a return to the Premier League.
24 year old they joined the £5m business from Ligue 1 side Lorient in the summer of 2020, he arrived with huge potential and lived up to it by scoring 11 clean sheets during his debut campaign in the English top flight.
However, he is not the only member of the first team who needs to move on Patrick Bamford is in desperate need of offloading after his recent poor run of form.
The Englishman joined a A £7m move from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018 and was once the club’s star in attacking areas, but has declined rapidly in recent years, scoring just 17 goals in the last four seasons – I can’t find the network during an ongoing campaign.
Such form in Leeds’ first season in the Premier League saw him earn his first England call-up under Gareth Southgate – surpassing fans’ imaginations just a few years after joining the club.
Injuries have also started to catch up with the 31-year-old, further preventing him from making an impact for Farke’s men – with the likes of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph sharing the centre-forward role in recent games.

However, despite his problems, the League One side Wrexham are being linked with a move to get the former England international, which could be the perfect opportunity for the hierarchy to cut their losses on the striker.
His lack of impact is one thing, but his extortionate earnings are another, right now pocketing £70k a week in Yorkshire – the best of any player in the squad – failing to show why he should earn such a figure since their return to the Championship.
In comparison, transfer targets Barry and Latte Lath mentioned above earn significantly less than Bamford, they both earn just £10k a week according to Capology – with the current Leeds man earning more than three times as much as the two of them combined.
Given his lack of influence and hefty salary, it is crucial that the hierarchy try to free up the forward this window, with either of the two potential targets providing the cover they would lose if he were to leave.
It was a sad downfall to his time in Yorkshire, but football is ultimately a cruel industry, with tough decisions to be made if success is to be achieved and reach the next level in the near future.
