Pep Guardiola challenges Erling Haaland to break Man City’s slump

Pep Guardiola has urged his Manchester City side to change the way they use striker Erling Haaland as they look to end their miserable run of form.

City have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions to drop to seventh in the Premier League table, with Haaland also enduring his own tricky spell in front of goal.

The Norwegian has scored just three times in his last 12 Premier League games, having netted ten in his previous five games, and Guardiola admitted City need to adjust their goal-scoring approach.

“It’s about us, not just one game,” Guardiola said. “When Erling was so prolific, it was about us, the team. But when you have problems at the back and in the middle, it’s all about the team. Not just one player. If it’s just one player, it would be easy to see why .

“Erling is so important to us and will be so important to us. We have to use him better.”

“This situation is new for all of us,” he continued. “It’s about us, everyone. The boys are running and trying harder than ever.

“People say we don’t run, we don’t fight, it’s this player, this manager – it’s not about that. It’s about a lot of small details or some big details that make us not as good as we were. But we have another opportunity in boxing Dan.

“We have players coming back and in time we will be better.”
