Known for his intense personality on the field, Kohli’s fiery interactions and heated exchanges with the players have often made headlines and this series was no different. Kohli first hit the headlines during the Melbourne Test when Kohli and the Australian opener Konstas himself were involved in a fierce conflict. The altercation took place after the 10th over of Australia’s innings when Kohli appeared to brush up against Konstas while passing him. Konstas did not like the physical contact, who immediately expressed his dissatisfaction. The situation escalated into a verbal altercation between the two players, which led to the intervention of the referees on the pitch to restore order. While the exchange showed Kohli’s aggressive behavior, it also drew criticism for crossing the line of sportsmanship.
Kohli made waves again on the third day of the Test in Sydney, where his animated gestures caught the attention of fans and critics alike. After Steve SmithAfter his dismissal, Kohli was seen making a “sandpaper” gesture towards the Australian crowd, an apparent reference to the infamous ball-tampering scandal of 2018. The scandal involved Smith, David Warnerand Cameron Bancroft the use of sandpaper to change the condition of the ball, remains one of the darkest moments in Australian cricket history. Kohli’s reference to the incident was widely seen as a mocking gesture.

Simon Katich’s sharp remarks on Kohli’s behaviour
Former Australian cricketer Simon Katićwho worked with Kohli as a coach Royal Challengers Bengaluru 2019, he addressed the recent incidents involving the Indian batsman. Katich questioned Kohli’s mindset during the tour, criticizing his physical contact in Melbourne and the mention of sandpaper in Sydney as unnecessary and embarrassing incidents.
“I think you have to wonder what kind of space he was in on this tour to do that, making physical contact in Melbourne and even the other embarrassing incident in Sydney with the reference to the sandpaper with pockets,Katich said on ESPN’s Around the Wicket show.
Katich criticized Kohli’s actions, stating that they were unnecessary and citing outdated controversies, ultimately suggesting that such behavior tarnished Kohli’s reputation both on and off the field during this tour.
“I mean, in itself, there was no need for that. It’s old news so in a way I think he’s somewhat tarnished his reputation on this tour, on and off the court,” Katich added.
