Lauren Price slams Natasha Jonas over Olympic failure: ‘She didn’t win a medal, I won gold’ | Boxing news
Lauren Price has reignited her war of words with Natasha Jonas in the build-up to their world championship unification on March 7.
WBA light heavyweight titleholder Price takes on British rival Jonas, the WBC and IBF 147lbs champion, at the Royal Albert Hall, live Sky Sports.
Price won every major title as an amateur and eventually wants to repeat the feat as a professional.
“I have big dreams and to become undisputed, there is no better thing than that in the professional ranks and this is just the beginning,” said Price Sky Sports News.
“I want to create a legacy. That’s what I want to do. I want to bring the big nights back to Wales. It’s a massive fight in March. I believe I’ll win it, get through and then I want the biggest fights in boxing.”
March 7 could be her defining moment as a professional boxer. “It’s a fight I’ve wanted for a long time. I think everybody knows I’ve been pushing for it. I believe you call yourself a world champion, you should fight anybody,” Price said.
“I’m in the professional game and I want to be the best and the best have to fight the best and that’s it.”
The verbal feud between Jonas and Price began immediately after both won their respective contests on the same card in December.
Price noted, “Jonas came out and said I think I’m better than what I am. But it just shows, the accolades I got as an amateur. She went to the Olympics, she didn’t win a medal. I won an Olympic gold medal, and also I have yet to lose a round as a pro.
“At the end of the day, you can talk as much as you want. When the bell rings, on March 7, we’ll see who comes out on top.”
But Jonas, the more seasoned professional of the pair, is adamant that she will win.
“I’m confident every time. I always believe I can win every time. That’s why I’m in the game and that’s why I want to fight the best. It’s going to be a great fight,” Jonas said. Sky Sports News.
“I respect everything Lauren brings, but I just think I’m better.
“I’ve been in what I believe is bigger than better. There’s nothing that Lauren Price brings that intimidates me at all.”
