We should not harass us, say opposition parties
The opposition parties in South Africa called on their president that they did not “harass” him now after Washington expelled Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, giving him only 72 hours to leave the country.
Rasool was declared an undesirable person after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called him a “race politician hate America” on Friday.
The tensions between South Africa and the USA are on a descending spiral of US President Donald Trump came to his duty.
However, the Minister of International Relations in South Africa, Ronald Lamola, told the SABC state television television that “it is not useful to get involved in diplomacy on Twitter”, saying that two countries should talk “face to face”.
Other politicians are less measured in their response.
The party of the opposition economic freedom (EFF) Julius Malem issued a terrible statement against the US, urging South Africa President Cyril Ramaphos “not to let the land harass him with an orange clown that occupied the White House.”
The Secretary General of the Afro -African Congress (PAC) also condemned the US decision, calling it an attack on South Africa’s sovereignty and an attempt to dictate politics in the country.
“It is not a doll now, we have the right to manage our country without any mixing,” he said.
Trump was a vocal critic of the controversial land in South Africa, which enables the Government to seize the land without compensation in certain circumstances.
Last month, Trump reduced his help in South Africa. He stated that there was a discrimination of a white minority of African, a descendant of Dutch and French settlers.
South Africa denies it.
Rasool had previously served as an American ambassador from 2010 to 2015, when Barack Obama was president.
He was re -appointed as ambassador to 2024, because of his previous experience and extensive network of contacts in Washington.
But despite his record, he faced the challenges of establishing meetings with Trump.
A unnamed South African diplomat told News Semaphor that someone with the ambassador “History of Pro-Palestinian Policy”, among other things, is “in this business probably in the business right now.”
Democratic Union (YES) – Coalition partner in South Africa Government of National Unity (GNU) – has called into question why it is the largest party, the African National Congress (ANC), still chose all its foreign diplomats.
“It’s just not okay that Anc got Carte Blanche in foreign policy and naming diplomats, while only 39% of the party,” said a spokesman that Willie Aucamp said Sabc, because he called for GNU members to let go to Washington to alleviate tensions.
