Commissioner PGA wants the US president to negotiate an agreement with a broken Liv Golf in the hope that he will end the sporting division at a professional level.
PGA Tour asked President Donald Trump to help Broker a contract with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, which could lead to a long -awaited alliance between the parties.
PIF is a financial supporter of the LIV Golf League, which tucked some of the stars of PGA TUR with its big money and tournaments contracts.
In a statement published on Thursday, PGA Tour said the commissioner Jay Monahan and the director of players Adam Scott met Trump on Tuesday.
“We know that golf fans are eagerly awaiting a resolution about negotiations with a public investment fund and we want to thank President Trump for the interest and long-standing support of Golf’s game,” read a statement signed by Monahan, Scott and player Tiger Woods.
“We asked the president to get involved in good games, well in the country and for all the countries involved. We are grateful that his leadership brought us closer to the final agreement, and inserting the way to the reunification of the male professional golf. “
More than 18 months have passed since PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Pif announced the “Framework Agreement” for the Alliance that shocked the sports world. The parties were blowing next to the imposed deadline on December 31, 2023 to finalize the agreement.
The only real news arrived last year in June, when PIF governor Yasir al-Rumayyan met PGA Tour representatives in New York in the week of the anniversary of the framework agreement.
Trump has a position and credibility with the founders of LIV.
His Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami is hosting events in April, as he did in 2023. That year, Trump courses in Washington, DC, and Bedminster, NJ, also held LIV events.
Trump said on Tuesday that he would visit the Middle East soon, including Saudi Arabia, although the exact date was not published.
