The driver passes into a crowd in Mannheim, Germany, leaving one person dead and the other wounded

One person was killed and the other was injured when a car ran into a crowd on Monday in West Germany, police said. The suspect is in custody.

Police in Mannheim have asked the public to stay away from the city center and stick to their homes. The other details were not immediately available.

Mannheim has a population of approximately 326,000 people and is about 85 kilometers south of Frankfurt.

The police spokesman Stefan Wilhelm told N-TV television that the “incident” occurred around 12:15 in the Paradeplatz area in the center of Mannheim, which launched a large police deployment.

Authorities have been pushing a warning of the Katwarn app by telling people in Mannheim to avoid the city area for great police deployment.

Katwarn officials use information about the main emergency information such as thunderstorms, militant attacks or fires.

More comes.
