“This proposal of the law is not related to restricting one’s personal expression. It is a ensure that legal documents reflect accurate statistics,” said GOP Middleton State Senator, who sponsored the Law, at the hearing of the State Affairs Committee. “Currently, the only way to change sex is a court order, and this account prevents this from.”
Testifying before the Committee, Megan Benton of the Texas Value group said it was “a matter of public security and public records.”
“If a man can legally change his birth certificate to say he is a woman, then it is possible to get a driver’s license, a passport and a social security card that also says she is female,” she said.
Several transgender Texans also testified before the Committee, saying that they believe that they were unfairly targeted.
