Supporters of detained Columbia student arrested after conflict with NYPD while Trump’s administrator seeks his deportation
A dozen protesters who demonstrated in support of former Columbia Mahmoud Khalil University students were arrested on Tuesday while clashed with police in New York.

US District Judge Jesse Furman ordered Khalil, whose US wife is a pregnant eight months, not deported while the court considers the legal challenge brought by his lawyers, who claim that the government is illegally avenging against him for constitutionally protected speech. His lawyers want to bring him back to New York and let him control.
On Tuesday, NYPD performed arrests after several protesters blocked the street downtown in Manhattan, even after a warning to clean the roadway, according to the New York Post.

Earlier, about 350 protesters marched from the Washington Square Park at the Federal Immigration Court of Plaza while sang by the anti-Israeli slogan and invited Khailin’s freedom, the socket noted.
“There is only one solution, an intifada revolution,” protesters sang.
The group was trying to keep speeches in front of the Federal Court in the middle of the street, when Nypd told them to continue walking. When the protesters tried to enter the City Hall park, police blocked them and forced them to turn.
Protesters said Khalil was criminalized for expressing his freedom of speech. They also said he was a “political prisoner”.
“Trump’s administration and preservative Columbia University believe if we are separated from this key stone of our community, our movement will begin to fall apart,” protesters shouted.
Officers also clashed with demonstrators outside Gracie Mansion to protest New York Mayor Eric Adams, which is holding iftar – Muslims for a meal have sunsets to break in a daily basis during Ramadan – because they demanded Khalil’s release.

Free speech groups and other civil rights organizations criticized Khalil’s custody as a violation of his rights of the first amendment to freedom of expression, saying that Trump’s administration wants to suppress the speech he disagrees with.
“This is America. We do not throw people into custody centers because of their politics. It issues our national commitment to freedom of speech,” the statement of individual rights and expression said.
