SOLHEIM CUP: Angela Stanford has appointed Captain Team USA for 2026. Competition against Team Europe in the Netherlands | Golf news

Angela Stanford was named the heir to Stacy Lewis and captain Captain Team USA will for their defense of the title of Solheim Cup in the Netherlands next year.
Stanford made his debut at Solheim Cup 2003 and played in five consecutive 2007 editions, which is in three winning teams – including the last win of the USA team on European soil in 2015.
The former main champion was the assistant captain in the last three editions of the two-year competition, who served as part of the Pat Hurst team in 2021 before being Vice President Stacy Lewis in the historic 14th to 14th in Spain in 2013.
Stanford was also an assistant in the team of Tim 15.5-12.5 in the US last September, and the 47-year-old now took over the captain for the next edition- Live on Sky Sports – In Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from 11 to 13 September 2026.
“I am extremely grateful that I was called the next American captain for Solheim Cup and joined the list of his heroes in the game,” Stanford said. “I have always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA tour and there is no greater honor than the presentation of your country.
“I consider it top careers and I look forward to leading our players to the Netherlands 2026.”
She has won seven times in the career of LPGA Tour, including a breakthrough main title with one win at the 2018 Evian Championship, while the latest was the volunteers of America Classic.
The American enjoyed playing 98 consecutive majorettes from 2002 to last summer, before withdrawing at the end of the 2024 season as a full LPGA Tour player.
She competed in three winning teams of Solheim Cups during her six appearances, registering 5.5 points with her 20 teams for the Team USA. She released 2.5 points and ended undefeated in defense of the team of Team USA 2007, and then returned 1.5 points two years later.
Stanford failed to register a point in the next two Solheim Cup, losing all three matches in 2011 and four in 2013, although her victory over Suzann Pettersen in Sunday 2015 was part of the famous victory in the last day for the team for Team USA.
“Angela Stanford will surely be a wonderful captain of the American team at the Solheim Cup 2026,” said the temporary commissioner LPGA Liz Moore. “Angela has always been a spark on the course and off the course, a real leader and a dedicated partner to her teammates. I have no doubt that she will take her composition until the successful week in the Netherlands.”
Nordqvist ready to lead Europe in the Netherlands
The Team USA will seek victories of Solheim Cup for return, for the first time since 2017, while the triple lead champion Anna Nordqvist will captain Captain Captain Captain to return the title on home soil.
Nordqvist presented in each of the last nine Solheim Cup as a player-always present a member of the European side from his debut from 2009, and the last two appearances also saw as Vice President of Pettersen.
“I am so honored to have been appointed a European customer captain of 2026,” Nordqvist said last month. “Whether we won or lost, Solheim Cup played such a huge role in my career since I was debut in 2009 in Chicago.
“The friendships I made and memories created during the nine games I played, make so incredibly special to get the opportunity to be European captain on my 10th Solheim Cup!”
