Artificial intelligence may eliminate the need for research analysts in the future, AlibabaChairman Joe Tsai said on Wednesday at CNBC Converge live Event in Singapore.
“Analysts for shares research can be completely replaced … You can ask him to compile a report on Nvidia or Apple, and that will do a great job,” he told CNBC David Faber.
However, this does not mean that the role of analysts will be completely eliminated, he said during the two-day CNBC event at Jewel Changi airport.
“I don’t think it completely replaces human beings. It will actually only improve the quality of work,” he said.
“I think the quality of research can really improve if the machine can do a lot of worldly research things, and then people can apply their judgment and make better recommendations.”
AI also stands basically changing the practice of law, he said, stating his own background of a lawyer.
“When you write a contract … The whole document has to fit well, every sentence, every definition, has to fit with each other. Well, and it can do a lot, I would say most of it,” he said. “Does that mean in the future, lawyers will replace AI? Not necessarily.”
He said that when clients employ “sophisticated lawyers,” they really seek advice.
“A lawyer is not something that is technical or black – it is a verdict,” he said. “I still think these jobs can only improve the AI rather than replace.”
