Open letter to Trump from former prisoners in Guantanama | Opinions

16 The signatories condemn the Trump command to delay the unfathomable people in military prison.

We, the lower -signed ex -prisoners in Guantanamo, strongly condemn US President Donald Trump’s executive order to expand custody for unfathomable people at the Guantanamo Bay.

Guantanamo is not just a prison – it is the place where the law is distorted, dignity is removed, and the suffering is hidden behind the barbed wire. We lived. We know the rattling of metal doors, the weight of the shackles and the silence of the world that has looked away. We know what it means to be in a cage without charges, without trial, without hope.

Now the same system that has stolen the years from our lives is spreading to prison migrants, people seeking security only to be sent to a place existed outside the law intended to remove their rights. Guantanamo not only allows abuse; Provides cruelty. This executive order not only enables injustice; guaranteed.

The discovery of migrants in Guantanamo denies their constitutional protection, capturing them in the same legal recess we endured. This deliberate ambiguity allows abuse, just as is the case with us. We know firsthand what happens when the system is designed to break people. This is not about security; It is about the strength, control and use of the Guantan Darkness to conceal another injustice.

This decision is a direct result of impunity in which crimes were now committed in Guantanama. AND Failure Prison and showdown with his legacy not only allowed these injustices to teach, but now enabled them to spread. Guantanamo was supposed to close; Instead, he comes to life for new victims.

We refuse to remain silent. We refuse to allow others to swallow the same nightmare we endured. No one deserves to be thrown into the system built to delete them. We won’t stop talking. We won’t stop fighting. We will not allow Huantanam’s horrors to be repeated.

Close Guantanamo. End of an indefinite custody. Stop this order.

We didn’t just survive from Guantanas. We are witnessing. And we won’t let the world forget.
