International Women’s Day was first held in March 1911, with more than one million people celebrating the event in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. At that time, women were not allowed to vote, and in numerous countries higher education was not open to women, and the divorce was not legal. A huge amount has since changed, of course. For example, political leaders of the two three best EU institutions are, for example, women. But violence against women and emptiness in the salary between men and women is still cited, but two burning questions that the EU is still trying to solve. We explore the state of women’s rights in Europe on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025 – 114 years after the original turning point.
