FIFA reveal details for the World Cup in a new women’s club
Fifa confirmed the launch of the World Cup in a 16 team women’s club, which made his debut in 2028.
The tournament, which was originally scheduled for 2026, was set to wait after the adoption of the management body to ensure that there is an appropriate space in football Calendar for the competition to be held.
Given that on Wednesday night after FIFA’s advisory meeting, the Women’s Club World Cup was now confirmed to launch in January 2028.
The tournament, which will be held every four years, will present 16 teams from all over the world, each with a different way to qualify. Asia, Africa, Concacaf and South America will get two automatic sites in group stages, and Uefa will give him five. Clubs from other Federations will compete in the Play -Doff, with six teams from separate alliances, with three places to capture.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be the final moment in the growth of women’s club football, giving the world’s best clubs the platform they deserve to compete against the best and put a women’s club game in a global attention.”
In the meantime, FIFA will launch the Champions Cup in 2026. The six team competition will be held annually, excluding the years that will be played by the World Cup at the club. The inaugural Cup of Champions will be held between January 27, 2026 to 31 January 2026, and the latest continental champion from each confederation will be drawn up, including the winner of this season Champions League.
