Ambassador Enrique Sanchez, a progressive Democrat serving at the Rhode Island House of Representatives, was attracted in the early morning hours of February 3 after being allegedly parked at the intersection.
Bodycam recording of stops of traffic that led to his arrest show that Sanchez offers a red debit card to a police officer instead of his driver’s license before telling her that he had nothing to drink.

The recording shows that Sanchez repeatedly releases his hands into his pockets, despite the repeated orders of a police officer to remove his hands from his pockets.
“How much do you drink?” One of the other officers at the scene asked Sanchez. “You lost to the drink, just be honest. You smell alcohol.”
When asked by the officer Sanchez if he would pass a sobriety test on the field, he asked if he could order Uber if he could refuse. One police officer told him he would not be able to order Uber, and at the scene he refused to pass a sober test on the field.
In an initial appearance on the day of his arrest, Sanchez declared that he was not guilty of drunken driving, and since then he said he was not guilty of less civic charges of refusing chemical testing and failure to obey the traffic control device.

Court records show that February 19 Sanchez’s license was suspended by Judge Cranston William Noonan. However, she received him a permit for difficulty that allows him to drive to and from his day and the State House to perform his legislative duties between 8 hours and 8 pm, provided he installs a dissolved lapping in his vehicle.
In a short conference for before examination on February 24, the case was transferred from a district court to a superior court in the country.

He did not apologize and instead said, “I will not allow my personal actions to become distracting from the questions that are truly important – families, companies and care of my community.”
“Sometimes we are too close to something to fully see our place in it,” he said. “This experience has given me a renewed clarity about my responsibilities – not only in this chamber, but in confidence, my community has put myself in. I take that trust seriously and continue to work hard every day of my life.”
Sanchez’s lawyer is a former speaker of the house on Rhode Iceland John Harwood.
