Peijing-Kinene Foreign Minister Wang Yi hit a more reconciled tone on US relations during high press conferences on Friday, as opposed to the Ministry more aggressive Language earlier in the week.
Although Wang said that now they should not impose “arbitrary tariffs” or restore good will with hostility, he emphasized that the two countries would be part of the world for a long time, demanding “peaceful coexistence”.
“Given the extensive common interests and a wide area for cooperation, China and now it is fully possible for partners to help each other succeed,” Wang said on Mandarin, through an official translation.
He spent much of the 90-minute press conferences talking about the efforts of China to improve relations with other countries and supporting the interests of non-west peoples.
Wang is also the director of the Office for Foreign Affairs within the Communist Party of the Chinese Central Commission, which makes it the highest diplomat in the country. He spoke with journalists during the Chinese annual parliamentary meeting known as “two sessions”.
His comments came shortly after China responded against US President Donald Trump.
“If the war is what they want now, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we are ready to fight to the end,” said the Chinese Embassy in the United States on Wednesday at X.
The tension between the US -ai China has escalated in the last few days. Trump has made another 10% tariff on Chinese goods earlier this week, to which Beijing avenged with targeted duties on US agricultural products and restrictions on several US companies.
Chinese trade minister Wang Wenao told reporters on Thursday Beijing was ready to meet with the US to talk about trade.
In the proposed budget published this week for government consumption this year, Beijing plans to increase the spending on diplomatic efforts by 8.4% compared to an increase of 6.6% last year.
