Callum Simpson to fight Ivan Zucca for the European title at the Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium in June | Boxing news
Callum Simpson will face Ivan Zucc for European Super-Credit Title at another Barnsley Homecoming on the Oakwell Stadium on Saturday 7th June, live on Sky Sports.
Capacity of 15,000 seats – maximum for the footless event – will be available at the Barnsley FC home, as Simpson seems to expand his perfect professional record of 17-0 against a colleague of undefeated fighter.
The Italian zucchini is 21-0 as a professional, and 18 of his wins have arrived with a knockout, and has previously been an international WBC champion.
“This is the biggest struggle in my career and I expect my hardest test so far,” Simpson said.
“Last summer, I won British and Commonwealth titles in front of my domestic audience, and now we are going back, bigger and better, fighting for the European title against undefeated fighter in Ivan Zucco.
“This is not just another fight, it’s a huge European night and I’m coming to the statement. I need Oakwell to be a fortress on June 7th and I make sure the European title stays here in Barsley.
“The support of Barnsley means everything for me. This city has supported me from the first day, and again to fight in Oakwell, in front of my people, something special. We sold it in two days last time, this time we are going even bigger. It will be a night to remember and I couldn’t be a brawl to the Barnsley on the big stage.
Simpson goes out in the fifth round of victory over Elvis Ahorgah in February after he has made a fight less than a month after throwing Steed Woodall in the second round.
The 28-year-old became British and Commonwealth Super-Code Champion last August, when he defeated Zak Chellli’s unanimous decision in Oakwell.
In the meantime, Zucco arrives after the winning of the second round in December over Kasim Gashi, and previously defeated Germaine Brown.
“He’s really honored to fight for such a prestigious title at such a great event,” Zucco said. “Dealing with a high quality opponent like Callum Simpson is an opportunity that excites me a lot. It will be a difficult battle, but I’m ready to give everything to win.
“Winning a European title would be a dream come true. This title means a lot to me, not only on a personal level, but also my family and everyone who has always believed in me. It will be honored to bring back the title to Italy and the highlight of the trip I have taken with passion and sacrifice.”
Tickets for Simpson’s victory over Chelli in Oakwell last summer were sold out before they went to the General Sale, and fans were encouraged to use their exclusive early approach.
