Pope suffered bronchial spasm, “sudden worse,” says the Vatican in an update of health
Pope Francis suffered a bronchial spasm on Friday, resulting in breathing in vomiting, demanding non -invasive mechanical ventilation, the Vatican said, conveying failure in his two -week long fight against double pneumonia.
The 88-year-old Pope responded well, with a good level of gas exchange, and remained aware and awake at all times, Vatican said in his late update.
Development marked the failure in two consecutive days increasingly exciting doctors who treated Francisco at the Gemelli Hospital of February 14th.
The episode, which happened in the early afternoon, resulted in “a sudden deterioration of respiratory paintings.” The doctors decided to keep their forecast.

Canadian Cardinal Michael Czerny tells CBC News that Pope Francis had difficulty breathing during a visit three weeks ago before the pope was hospitalized and later diagnosed with pneumonia.
The upcoming calendar in question
Despite his improvements, Francis’s short -term coming calendar of events was changed: the Vatican canceled the audience of the Holy Year of Saturday, and it remained to see if Francis would skip a blessing for the third week in a row on Sunday midday.
Since ASH Wednesday is now delegated to the cardinal, the next big events come during the Holy Week and Easter, which falls this year on April 20th.
