Former Indian cricket Robin Uthappa has appointed the next Indian captain to replace the current skipper Rohit Sharma. Uthappa supported Shreyas Iyer as a leading candidate to become the next Team India captain in front of Shubman Gill, who is the Vice President of the team in all three formats.
Iyer once considered himself a potential heir to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the next captain of the Indian team. He was regular in all formats, but he faced failure after losing his central contract for the 2024-25 season because of the absence of Trophy, despite the Committee Directives.

Shubman Gill got his first taste of the captain on a global stage during the IPL 2024, where he is Captain Gujarat Titans. However, it was a challenging season because the team failed to reach the playoffs.
Later in the year, Gill led India in the T20I series with five games against Zimbabwe, leading the team to the 4-1 Series Victory Command. The name was named Vice -President of the Indian team on the eve of the domestic series against England.
