Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal’s ‘priority’ for the January transfer window
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that the club is still “very ready” to transfer market this month, but does not want to actively hire.
The Gunners have struggled this season due to constant injury problems, which has dampened their Premier League title hopes. It seemed so ease after the representative break in Novemberbut fresh problems including losses Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri hit the team again.
On top of that, the seasonal illness has ravaged the group in recent weeks, and it hit Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard the worst, but also took away many others.
Despite this, Arteta says that the priority in January is to continue working with the existing players.
“That hasn’t changed – the focus is again on our player[s]” Arteta he answered the question about the possibility of new faces coming to the club.
“Whatever is on the market, we are very careful, but the priority is to work with the players we currently have and [Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday]which is a big night for us.
“It’s not that [to new players, but]no no!”
Arsenal they have struggled for depth at the back this season due to various absences. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu were sidelined and left Jurrien Timber as the only available right-back, which in turn forced Thomas Partey back from midfield to cover at times.
Summer signing Riccardo Calafiori has also missed a lot of football on the opposite side.
The team still lacks a natural scorer in attack, with Havertz putting up respectable but not prolific numbers, and Gabriel Jesus guilty of shooting in spurts rather than consistently. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush is connectedalthough there is likely to be stiff competition from Manchester City and Liverpool if the Gunners formalize the rumored interest.
