Liverpool have received an approach for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid for a January transfer
Liverpool turned down an approach from Real Madrid during January move for right back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 26-year-old is now in the final six months of his contract and overseas clubs are now allowed to make contact over a free transfer in the summer, but Madrid are believed to be keen on securing Alexander-Arnold’s signature immediately.
Madrid reached out to Liverpool, per The Timesbut they were sacked almost immediately, with the Reds making it clear they had no interest in discussing a sale in January.
As a result, Madrid will now open formal negotiations with Alexander-Arnold directly over a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Athletic emphasize that Liverpool denied the claims that Alexander-Arnold has already expressed his desire to join Madridwith the right back even sending a quiet response to reports with a goal celebration against West Ham United at the weekend.
Despite this, further reports insist an agreement has been reached with Madrid already on the verge of completion.
in the short term, Liverpool are hoping to keep hold of Alexander-Arnold to help them fight for the Premier League title, but have not given up hope of tying down the right-back to a new contract and plan to continue negotiations.
