M23 rebels supported from Rwanda states a truce in Drc | News of the conflict
The M23 armed group said that for humanitarian reasons, she would stop their progress in Dr. Kong.
The forces that supported Rwanda in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced that for humanitarian reasons they would stop their progress across the east of the country.
The AFC/M23 rebel coalition announced late Monday that it would spend a single truce starting on Tuesday. The group, supported by thousands of hulls from neighboring Rwanda, seized Goma, the capital in the East DC, last week, with the United Nations estimated that 900 people had been killed, while hundreds of thousands were displaced.
Calls have been established to establish a humanitarian corridor to allow people to escape from fighting. However, the announcement was not the direct commentary on the government of Drc Kinshasi, and it is unclear whether the army of the country would respect the interruption of fire.
“The Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) Alliance informs the public that, in response to a humanitarian crisis caused by a regime in Kinshas, he declares a truce from the beginning of February 4. February 4, 2025. For humanitarian reasons,” the statement published on X.

After taking Goma, a city of two million people and is a home of great mineral wealth, the rebels have progressed to Bukavu in recent days, another regional center in the Eastern DRC, previously declared their goal Move on DRC to download the capital.
However, they stated in their statement that they would not attack the provincial city.
“It must be clearly said that we have no intention of capturing noise or other areas. However, we repeat our commitment to the protection and defense of the civilian population and our positions,” a spokesman for M23 Lawrence Kanyuk said in a statement.
The UN said on Monday that at least 900 bodies were recovered from Goma streets, but that the real number of fatalities are likely to be significantly higher, and in total they do not include those already taken to the morgue and bodies that are still lying down the city.
Local authorities also counted almost 2,900 people injured last week, reports.
Peace negotiations?
The announcement of a break in the fight was followed by a regional summit during the weekend, which is expected to attend Presidents Congo and Rwanda.
President of Drc Felix Tshiseekedi and President Rwanda Paul Kagama have previously failed to attend conversations trying to mediate peace. However, Kenya, which holds the rotating Presidency of East Africa block, suggested that the couple would appear.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Seven (G7) on Monday called on the parties in the conflict to return to negotiations and invite the “fast, safe and unobstructed passage of humanitarian lobes for civilians.”
Fights in DRC are related to decades of ethnic conflict. M23 says he defends ethnically Tutsis, who fled to Drc in the middle of a 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
DRC accuses Rwanda and rebels of land resources robbery, which include huge beds of rare countries.
The long -standing conflict has left many people in the entire region displaced and in the terrible need of humanitarian aid.
