French police officer ordered to pay 1,000 euros for an offensive woman who reported sexual abuse
The French police officer was ordered to pay 1,000 euros or about $ 1,000 after describing a woman who appealed for sexual abuse as “a whore,” a source close to that case said on Saturday.
In a case that caused anger in France, a woman, then 34, she appealed at the Paris Police Station in February 2022, saying she was attacked on the street after several drinks on a night out.
The male cop later called her on the phone to ask her to return and complete the paperwork. After leaving the message – thinking he lowered – he started insulting her, calling her “whore” three times.
The case caused the outrage of activists who said it reflects how many police officers act Victims of sexual violence.
French statistics in 2017 showed that over 80,000 adult women are facing rape or trying to rape every year in the country, but only 10% filed an appeal, Associate Press reported.
But like many countries around the world, the #Metoo movement has encouraged social and government changes in recent years. The number of cases of sexual violence was more than doubled from 2016 to 2023, according to the French newspaper Le Monde.
In a rare comment, the then Minister of the Interior of France, Gerald Darminanin, said the 33-year-old officer should be fired.
The police officer is charged with “a non -gender insult.” But the French court cleared the police officer of criminal liability in January 2024. During the trial, the clerk apologized and said that he had to ask Darman to keep his job.
The woman then complained against the decision, asking the judiciary to recognize the misconduct of the officers.
On January 30, the Paris Appellate Court appeared with his wife and said that a police officer should pay her 1,000 euros, according to a copy of the verdict received by the AFP.
The police officer repeatedly apologized for his remarks, but insisted that these were only an expression of his inconvenience for procedural irregularities.
In his verdict, the court found that “it cannot be challenged that the term” la path “(whore) was repeated several times offensive and was, given the context, intended for the plaintiff because of its gender.”
Women’s lawyer Arie Alima said it was necessary to “go all the way” to draw attention to bias “towards the victims of sexual and gender violence and victims of police officers.”

In the latest case of sexual violence in the country, ex -husband Gisèle Pelicotwho admitted that he had drugged and raped it several times almost a decade and called on dozens of other men to attack him and proclaimed guilty of difficult rape.
Forty -nine men, who brought Dominique Pelicot to his home to attack his wife, were also convicted as part of the same trial.
Pelicot’s case launched protests across France, and among some demonstrants there was a hope that the case could lead to changes in controversial French laws that regulate sexual consent.
