The longtime Cheltenham Festival Sir Gino Festival Festival is off the rest of the season after picked up the ligament infection.
On Saturday, the five -year -old was forced to miss the intended running in Newbury with what was described on the back leg as a “little wound”, but this injury was now infected and Sir Gino is being treated at a hoof hospital.
Owned by Joe and Marie Donnelly, Sir Gino is the perfect five of the five in Britain, winning twice over the fence and was short as 8/11 for Chase Chase, on the first day of March.
In a statement about the X, Henderson said: “Unfortunately, the situation of Sir Gina has worsened somewhat and was admitted to the Kopitar hospital.
“As a result of initial tests in Donnington Grove, the infection attacked the ligaments in his near the back leg.
“This will require a prolonged treatment that will unfortunately reject him from any further races this season.
“This is a terrible blow to Joe and Marie Donnelly and everyone in seven Barrows, but we will do everything possible to help this incredible bright light in the full fitness next season.”
It is the second consecutive festival that Sir Gino missed after pulling it out of last year’s triumphant obstacles while the health problems were tortured by Henderson’s seven Barrows’ backyard.
Leaves Willie Mullins Majborough as favorites 4/7 in Arklea, in front of L’Eau du court and Ballyburn.
