Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle have been handed stern transfer warnings over the Brentford striker
Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have been given a stern warning amid rumors of interest in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeum ahead of January transfer window.
Mbeumo stepped up his goalscoring output this season, netting ten times in the Premier League – only five players in the division have scored more so far in the 2024/25 season.
He has already bettered the consecutive nine he registered in 2022/23. and 2023/24, while the Cameroonian is well on his way to surpassing the record 15 league goals he scored in 2019/20. – that came at a time when Brentford was playing in the Championship.
This form, not surprisingly, brought links with bigger clubs, s Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle have all reported that they are looking for options to strengthen in the next few weeks. But Bees boss Thomas Frank claims “nothing will happen” before the window even opens.
“In January? I’d say a lot of luck,” Frank told reporters at a press conference this week as Brentford prepare to face Arsenal on New Year’s Day.
“We love Bryan. He loves playing here. He had a fantastic season, so nothing is going to happen.”
Brentford they are enjoying another solid Premier League season, nine points clear of the relegation zone as 2024 becomes 2025, and within one win of the first half.
The Bees have developed a reputation for developing previously unknown talent – such as Mbeum – but have also often managed to avoid having their players poached by richer teams.
David Raya, who joined Arsenal for £27m after his first loan spell, is perhaps the only exception to this. Ivan Toney was sold for big money to Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia after a poor season and entering the final year of his contract.
