Royal Challengers Bengalur (RCB) is expected to announce its new captain on Thursday, February 13th for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season in Bangalore. According to media reports, Veteran RCB Batter Virat Kohli is unlikely to take on a leading role for the upcoming IPL season.
The team based in Bengaluru needs a new captain after he split with Faf du Plexis, who led the team from 2022 to 2024. They did not retain 40-year-old on the eve of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Delhi Capitals acquired him at his basic price. Du Plessis took the lead in 2022.
Virat Kohli is unlikely to lead the royal challenges to Bengalur in IPL 2025
According to The Times of India, RCB planned its auction strategy of IPL 2025, assuming that Virat Kohli could return as a captain. Kohli led the team from 2013 to 2021 and captain several games in the 2023 season. The report added that the 36-year-old is unlikely to take over the captain.
The middle line of Rajat Patidar appeared as a leading candidate for the captain, and the Pandya crown is also in the race. Patidar led Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy finals. The right dough ended up as the second highest scorer of the 2024 season, collecting 428 rides in nine scams.

The TOI report added that RCB was supposed to announce its new captain on Thursday, February 13, at 11:30. The franchise sent invitations for “Special Media Gathering” to this key announcement. MO Bobat Crick Director, Chief Coach Andy Flower and mentor Dinesh Karthik will attend the event.
Records Virat Kohli and Faf du Plexis as Captain RCB
Virat Kohli is a captain of the franchise in 143 matches, beating 66 and losing 70. Three matches ended with ties and four non-reflules. RCB reached the IPL 2016 finals, but failed to secure the IPL title. Kohli also had impressive outings in IPL 2024, reaching 741 racing at the rate of 154.69 strike.
Du Plessis, who took over the captain for RCB, led the team in 42 matches, with 21 wins and 21 defeat. During the IPL 2024, the team suffered seven defeats in its first eight matches, but refused with six consecutive victories. However, their season ended with a loss at the eliminator to Rajasthan Royals.
