Australia has banned Deepsek from all government devices and systems because of what says they are a security risk that drives Chinese artificial intelligence (AI).
Deepseek stunned the world in January when he discovered a chatbot that aligned the level of performance of US rivals, claiming he had a much lower training cost.
Billions of dollars at international levels were wiped out with stock exchanges, including Australia, where there are shares related to AI – like Brainchip chips – dropped suddenly overnight.
The Australian government insisted that the ban was not a result of the Chinese origin of the application, but because of the “unacceptable risk” that represents national security.
Deepseek approached the comment.
The Australian move in particular requires any government entities “to prevent the use or installation of products, applications and web services Deepseek” as well as the removal of any previously installed, to any government system or device.
This means that a wide range of workers will not be able to use tools in the country, including those who work in such different areas such as the Australian Election Commission and the Bureau for Meteorology.
It is less clear whether it means that Deepsek would ban computers in the public sector in different areas of the economy, such as schools.
The ban does not apply to devices of private citizens.
Growing – and known – worries
Western countries have a record that they doubt Chinese technology – especially the telecommunications company Huawei and the Social Media platform, Tiktok – both are limited on the basis of national security.
The initial reaction to Deepseek – which quickly became the favorite free application in the UK and the US – she seemed to be different.
President Donald Trump described it as a “invitation to wake up” for the US, but he said on a whole that it could be a positive development if it reduced AI costs.
Since then, however, doubts have begun to express themselves.
The Australian Minister of Science said earlier in January that countries must be “very careful” about deep problems, citing “data and privacy” concerns.
The application is already banned in Italy, which temporarily blocked Chatgpt for privacy care in March 2023.
Regulators in South Korea, Ireland and France have started investigations on how Depseek processes user data, which he stores in servers in China.
The Karoline Leavitt White House secretary also said they are now studying possible security implications.
The US Navy allegedly banned its members to use Deepseek – although it did not confirm the BBC.
Generally, AI tools will analyze the instructions that have been sent to them to improve their product.
This applies to applications such as Chatgpt and Google Gemini as much as Deepseek.
Everyone is gathering and keeping information, including the address E -Star and birth dates.
However, security experts have previously warned that anyone who works on confidential or national areas of security must be aware of the risk of what they enter into chatbot that the developers of these tools keep and analyze.
