Yuvraj Singh openly attacks people who say ‘bad things’ about ‘greats’ Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli
Former Indian cricket all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, reflected on the poor performance of the Indian team in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He admitted that they did not play good cricket but said that it is very wrong to say bad things about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The Indian national cricket team suffered a 3-1 defeat against the Australian national cricket team in the three-match ODI series. They looked inept with bat and ball and even after winning the first game, they couldn’t carry on the momentum in the following games.
India’s batting was the main reason why the team faced losses in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed miserably, while there was hardly any support for Jasprit Bumrah in the five-match Test series against the Australian national cricket team.
We forget what they have achieved in the past – Yuvraj Singh on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh, speaking about the defeat, backed the team and said that no other team has won two consecutive series in Australia. He said fans should not criticize Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as he feels they would be hurt more.
Yuvraj Singh also expressed his confidence in Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar to decide the way forward for Indian cricket. Speaking to PTI, he explained:
“I look at what India have achieved in the last five-six years. They have won two in a row in Australia. I don’t remember if any other team has done that. We talk bad things about our greats Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli… we forget what they have achieved in the past. They are one of the greatest cricketers of this time.
“Okay, they lost, they didn’t play good cricket. They got injured more than us. I feel Gautam Gambhir as a coach, Ajit Agarkar as a selector, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are the best minds in cricket right now and they have to decide which is the way forward for Indian cricket.”
Never in the past have I seen a captain’s form not going well and he’s gone – Yuvraj Singh on Rohit Sharma going downhill
Yuvraj Singh also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s decision to sit out the last Test, saying it was his greatness. He also hailed the skipper as a great captain and said:
“I think it’s a big thing. I’ve never seen a captain’s form not going well in the past and he himself went. And this is the greatness of Rohit Sharma that he kept the team in front of him. I think he’s a great captain. Regardless of that he win or lose, he will always be a great captain, and we won the World Cup final.
My job is to support my friends and brothers – Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh added that losing to Australia after two wins in the series is acceptable, but not losing to New Zealand. He also shared his thoughts on how things can be improved, adding that the players are his family and he will support them. He explained:
“To me, losing New Zealand hurts more. Because they’re losing 3-0 at home. You know, that’s not acceptable. This is still acceptable because you’ve won twice in Australia. And you’ve lost this time.
“I was a student of the game and I’m a student of the game now. The amount of cricket I’ve played, they’ve played more cricket than me. I can give my opinion. And my opinion is that when players don’t perform, it’s easy to say bad things about them, but the job of the media is to support my friends and brothers.
