Two WSL greats are ‘following’ USWNT star Trinity Rodman
WSL giants Chelsea and Arsenal are among the clubs tracking USWNT star Trinity Rodman, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has been with the Washington Spirit since 2021 when she was selected as their second pick in the NWSL draft. She won the championship with them in the same year when she was declared the young player of the year in American football.
Rodman has only one year left on his contract with Spirit and the journalist Tom Bogert claims Arsenal and Chelsea are among a number of clubs monitoring her situation. Should she become a free agent, she won’t be short of suitors who played a key role in the USWNT’s quest for Olympic gold last summer.
Rodman represented her country at youth level at a number of age groups before being called up to the senior side for the first time ahead of their SheBelieves 2022 campaign. She collected her first cap in February that year and scored her first goal a few months later in April in a friendly against Uzbekistan.
The forward, who now has 46 caps, isn’t the only USWNT star attracting interest WSL as national team-mate Naomi Girma is the subject of a transfer from Chelsea in this transfer window. Widespread reports suggest the Blues are closing in on a world-record deal to sign the 24-year-old from the San Diego Wave.
Chelsea and Arsenal are currently battling it out at the top of the WSL table, with Sonia Bompastor’s side leading the way in attack. Chelsea are currently seven points clear of their London rivals in the table and the two sides will meet in a huge clash at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Arsenal recently confirmed Renee Slegers as their permanent head coach following the Dutchwoman’s successful tenure as interim boss. Slegers took charge of the team after Jonas Eidevall stepped down from his role back in October, just days after the two teams last met.
