Lisa Murkowski says she can’t confirm Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense
Sen. Lisa MurkowskiR-Alaska, said Thursday that she could not support Pete Hegseth to be President Donald Trump’s secretary of defense.
“Given the global security environment in which we operate, it is critical that we confirm the Secretary of Defense, however, I regret that I cannot support Mr. Hegseth,” she concluded in a lengthy statement posted on X.

In her explanation, Murkowski cited infidelity, “allegations of sexual abuse and excessive drinking” and Hegseth’s previous comments about women serving in the military.

His self-admitted conduct, she said, showed “a lack of judgment unbecoming of someone leading our armed forces.”
Although Hegseth admitted past infidelity, he denied claims of excessive drinking and sexual assault.
