Fenerbahce held on while Roma and Ajax suffered shocking defeats
After the drama of the return of the Champions League this week, it was now the turn of the Europa League which served up some midweek action.
16 games were played on Thursday, with Besiktas’ 4-1 win over Athletic Club as Wednesday night’s warm-up.
Two English clubs were in action, Manchester United hosted Rangers, and Tottenham traveled to Hoffenheim.
Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils scored a late winner to beat Rangers, meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites almost lost a comfortable lead in Germany but managed to hold on for three big points.
Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are up against Lyon but could not find a way through against their French opponents, drawing 0-0 at home.
Portugal’s Porto hosted Olympiacos but fell short, losing 1-0 thanks to Ayoub El Kaabi’s 79th-minute goal.

Roma went to AZ Alkmaar and like many others were on the end of a shocking result. The Italians lost 1-0 thanks to former Tottenham player Troy Parrott scoring the only goal of the game.
Lazio clashed fiercely with Real Sociedad. The home team won 3-1, and Sociedad got Aihen Munoz in the first half, so it was difficult to reverse from that moment.
And Ajax were on the receiving end of a shock result, losing 1-0 away to RFS.
That was not the end of the action, with dozens more goals flying around the pitch in an excellent night of European football.
