The Man Utd star was “absolutely crazy” against Liverpool
Manchester United gave a fantastic performance to draw 2-2 away against eternal rivals i Premier League leader Liverpool.
The Red Devils worked incredibly hard throughout the game, going with the Merseysiders and ensuring they put their poor run of form behind them.
Despite the fact that there were no goals in the first half, it was an action-packed first 45 minutes. Rasmus Hojlund had the golden opportunity of the half, but his shot was straight at goalkeeper Red Alisson.
Despite the Dane’s miss, United took the lead with Lisandro Martinez’s fierce strike. The unexpected scorer scored from the corner of Liverpool’s penalty area. However, United’s lead did not last long. Cody Gakpo tied things up with a similar strike just seven minutes later.
The home team, with the noise of the fans from Anfield, took the lead from the penalty spot after the ball hit Matthijs de Ligt’s hand. Mohamed Salah made no mistake from 12 meters. United, however, got an answer, through none other than Amad Diallo. The young white-haired man met Alejandro Garnach’s cross and equalized for the guests.
Despite chances at the end for both sides, the game ended in a memorable 2-2 draw. There were certainly outstanding performances for Ruben Amorim’s team, s Harry Maguire performing particularly well.
Harry Maguire’s stats against Liverpool
Just a day after it was confirmed that the Red Devils would activate Maguire’s one-year contract extension, he put in a colossal performance against the club’s arch-rivals at Anfield.
Dealing with the likes of Salah, Gakpo and Luis Diaz is a tough task, but Maguire handled it superbly.
He fearlessly went into tackles and was dominant in the air. At the death, he had a chance to win, well placed by Joshua Zirkzee, however, the ball bounced and the defender could not find the post. That may have been his only fault.
Nevertheless, it was a play that Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst considered worthy of a 7/10 rating. United’s correspondent explained that it was “United’s best performance at Anfield” by United’s number 5.
Really, statistics via Sofascore support that statement. The 31-year-old completed seven clearances against Arne Slot’s side, made four interceptions and won three tackles. He was a rock at the back.
As good as the Red Devils defender was, there was someone who was perhaps even better. That man was United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes vs Liverpool stats
It was only after a suspension which meant he missed United’s last game against Newcastle United that Fernandes really came into his own against Liverpool. It was a completely dominant performance, described as a “completely meaningless” performance by Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson.
He was everywhere, creating chances from all sides of the pitch and posing fantastic challenges off the ball. He was rewarded with a fantastic assist for Martinez, a nice back pass after a good dribble in a tight space. Garnacho also played behind the Reds defense which led to Amad’s goal.
The stats certainly show how good Fernandes was on Sunday. He had 88 touches of the ball, creating four chances along the way. The captain of the Red Devil won an incredible 11 duels, showing how good he is even without the ball.

Fernandes, Maguire and their United team-mates will be hoping to carry this momentum into their next outing. Next weekend they have a tough visit to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
