Rory McIlroy explains the equipment for the middle of the tournament in the turn of the club during Arnold Palmer Invitational | Golf news

Rory McIlroy confirmed that he would switch to his original Taylormade driver until at least Masters after the end of the significant change of equipment in the middle of the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament.
McIlroy made huge changes in the bag on the eve of the Signature event, replacing his Taylormade Qi10 driver, three woods and five wood for new Taylormade Qi35 clubs, and Northern Irish also changed his wedge.
Much changes were associated with McIlroy’s switch to the second Golf Ball earlier this season, which led to the reconsideration of his entire bag, although the club experiment was interrupted during the unpleasant week from a teenager at Bay Hill.
McIlroy led the fields in the moves of the acquired teenager when he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM last month, and when he released an even 17th place at Invitational Genesis in the late two weeks, only to lose his shot on the field in that metric during his 15th place.
“I led the moves acquired: from the teenager Iu Pebble Iu Torrey, so it was a really good idea to change,” McIlroy laughed after his last round 72, leaving him eight shots behind the winner of the tournament Russell Henley.
“[Saturday]I lost the moves from the teenager, for the first time I did it in a long time. Yes, he just returned to what was known and what was comfortable.
“For the first three days I tried New Woods, I didn’t quite manage the way I wanted it. So yes, I came back to my old things. The driver, Fairway Wood, all.”
What was the thinking behind the initial change?
McIlroy used the Taylormade Qi35 driver, a 15 -degree tree and a 18 -degree club he described as his ‘four wood’ during the first three rounds, with Taylormade “Proto” P770 with three iron and new MG4 Pitching wedge he also added to the bag.
The addition of the trio iron in the world came by lowering four to three wedges in the bag, with the idea that Switch helps McIlroy that he had more options for choosing a club outside the teenager.
“I would hit my three wood, which goes as 285, 290, but the guys shorter than me hit a 300 or 310 driver. I feel like I was in a disadvantage, even to the people who hit him shorter than me, depending on setting up the course,” McIlroy explained ahead of the week.
“I messed up with a mini driver last year, but I just couldn’t comfortable with him. Somehow I played with three trees stronger. [Qi35] To have 300, 305 in the air, which is really a good club for me.
“That type of four wood bridges, then I got triple iron replaced by five wood. So, I have a club of such flies 260, a club flying 280, a club that flies 300 and then a driver.
“It just gives me more options from a teenager. Especially if I’m so comfortable at the other end of the wedge bag and hitting these three quarters of the recording, that it is nice to have and the options at the upper end of the bag.”
What will mcilroy do next?
McIlroy will use his original Taylormade driver in The Players this week – live Sky Sports – And said he expects to continue to use it all the way to the master, where he will have another opportunity to complete the Grand Slam in his career.
“For this, the advantages and disadvantages are [equipment changes]And that is a blessing and a curse at the same time when we have to go through these 12-month-old club cycles, “McIlroy said on Sunday.
“I probably just didn’t give myself enough time. It can look good on the track and it can look good on home at home at a bear club or on a golf course, but once you go out here in these conditions, it really shows it and it’s just not quite ready.”
At the point where he expects to play in front of the master, McIlroy added, “I’ll see how he goes next week, and then somehow I see what I feel and what I think I need.
“I think that [Augusta] This year it will only be a little different. There are some areas of the course that may be a slightly thinner tree, only with a hurricane that broke through. 16. is new green, so yes, I’ll probably go there once or twice. “
