Texas survived a double overtime scare against Arizona State in a College Football Playoff thriller

Texas, ranked No. 3 in the country, entered the game as a 13.5-point favorite. But the No. 12 Sun Devils never gave up, as running back Cam Skattebo racked up 143 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 99 yards receiving to lead the way in a near-upset effort.

But Ewers kept things in check for the Longhorns, throwing for 322 yards with three touchdowns, while wide receiver Matthew Golden had 149 yards with a touchdown.
Golden caught a touchdown on a critical 4th-and-13 play in the first overtime, when Texas was one moment away from elimination. Golden got open at midfield and tipped in Ewers’ pass to force a second overtime and give the Longhorns a chance to avoid a historic upset.

Texas will now advance to the semifinals where they will face the winner of the Rose Bowl matchup between Oregon and Ohio State.
