Strength Training for Seniors – Hard Effort Matters – BionicOldGuy

I found an important study on Clarence Bass’ website here. AND study of strength training among retirees found that strenuous training is necessary to preserve muscle mass. The study compared a group that did heavy resistance training with a moderate-intensity group, and also with a control group that did not exercise. Muscle mass was effectively preserved only after four years for the group with high resistance. The high-resistance group used weight machines, while the moderate-resistance group used resistance bands and bodyweight exercises. I would like to clarify that you can still lift heavy using resistance bands, you just have to use more of them.

Bottom line, go hard! Clarence emphasizes this all the time, and I have mentioned it once or more. It’s nice to see this proven, especially for us seniors, in a clear study like this one.
