Steve Smith: Australia Tith’s passes 10,000 trials while visitors are dominated by Sri Lanka on the first day in Galleu | Current news
Steve Smith became 15. A player who scored 10,000 trials, passing a trace of the first day of Australia’s conflict with Sri Lanko in Galle.
The 35-year-old went to this series to 9,999 running after just missing a five-digit landmark in his home test against India in Sydney earlier this month.
Smith did not lose time after he arrived in a fold on 135 for two on Wednesday, breaking the shot through the middle of the first delivery he faced and pierced for the single.
He lifted his baton and confessed to the cheerleading crowd before sharing a hug with the khawaj.
Smith, capturing his country because of this series in the absence of Pat Cummins, became only the fourth Australian who reached a turning point after Allah’s border in 1993, Steve Waugh 2003 and Ricky Ponting 2008.
They needed Smith 115 tests to get to the tag, making it a common second fastest – along with former Captain Sri Lanka Kumar Sangakkara – to do so, with only West Indies Great Brian Lara (111) in front of the couple.
Other shots that have reached orientation include English Sir Alastair Cook and Joe Root, as well as Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Younis Khan, Mahela Jayawardene and Sunil Gavascar.
Australia dominated the series’ Day, ending at 330-2, and Smith and Khawaja had achieved centuries, while the hosts picked up WiKkets of Travis Head (57) and Marnus Labuschagne (20).
