Scottish Cup: Cyriel Dessers hits hat-trick as Rangers thrash Fraserburgh; Raith Rovers pass Falkirk | Football news

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers scored a hat-trick as the Light Blues eased into the fifth round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup with a 5-0 win over Fraserburgh at Ibrox.

Despite the Gers’ almost total dominance, the Highland League side held firm until the 27th minute when the 30-year-old Nigeria international headed in a corner, having previously missed an open goal.

French defender Clinton Nsiala scored his first Rangers in his fourth appearance for the club six minutes into the second half and then Dessers, linked with Leganes, St Etienne, Cagliari and Empoli this transfer window after falling behind Hamza Igamane and injured Danilo in added a third five minutes later.

The forward set up Ross McCausland’s fourth goal with 15 minutes remaining and then eventually completed his hat-trick.

The schedule has allowed manager Philippe Clement to rest a host of one-eyed players for Thursday’s Europa League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where, with 11 points from six games, their hopes of qualification are still alive.

Northern Ireland goalkeeper Mason Munn, 18, made his debut in one of seven changes made by Clement, while Zak Lovelace, also 18, started in attack in what proved to be a morale-boosting win for Rangers.

Raith Rovers needed extra time to beat Championship rivals Falkirk to book their place in Monday’s fifth round draw.

Callum Morrison put Championship leaders Falkirk ahead in the second half before Sam Stanton hit back for the visitors five minutes from time.

Dylan Easton converted a penalty in the second half of extra time to send Raith Rovers through.
