Spurs are negotiating the signing of the “electric” star
About a year and a half has passed since then Ange Postecoglou was appointed manager Tottenham Hotspurand one would say that a lot has changed in that time.
There were some undeniable positives, such as a more entertaining style of football, some big wins over Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United and the signings of the likes of Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke.
However, there were also some significant problems, such as the extremely unpredictable form of the team and, on the recruitment side, the signing Timo Werner on loan.
The German striker failed to establish himself in the team last season and has somehow struggled to be even worse this season, so recent reports linking the club with a player who could be the perfect replacement should excite fans.
Tottenham are chasing a Premier League star
According to a a recent report from The Independent’s chief football writer, Miguel Delaney, Tottenham are one of several teams interested in pursuing Manchester United Marcus Rashford.
In fact, Delaney revealed that the North Londoners have already made contact and held informal talks about the possibility of taking the Englishman on loan until the end of the season.
But he also claims in his report that the United ace is more likely to go abroad and his enormous salary of £300,000 a week would be a problem for Lilywhite.
With that said, if they can convince Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co to cover part of his wages, then this could be a brilliant transfer for Tottenham, as although he is far from his best, Rashford would be an immediate upgrade on Werner.
How Rashford compares to Werner
So, as things stand, Postecoglou’s backup to Son Heung-min on the left appears to be Werner, but as most fans will probably attest, he has been less effective since moving to North London last January.
Therefore, if Rashford were to join the club this month, he would likely do so to compete with the German behind him and to step in when the South Korean is rested, and we reckon it’s a competition he’d win without a problem.
For example, despite being left out of the squad multiple times this season, the Manchester-born forward has still scored seven goals and three assists in 24 performances, a total of 1500 minutes.
This means that the “electric” 60 caps international, as Statman Dave called himhe is currently averaging a goal every 2.4 games, or every 150 minutes for the Red Devils this season, which may be better than some have been led to believe.
In contrast, the former RB Leipzig ace only managed to score one goal and three assists in 26 appearances this season, a total of 937 minutes.

In other words, the Stuttgart-born striker is averaging a goal every 6.5 games, or every 234.25 minutes this year, which is simply not enough for a team like Tottenham.
Ultimately, if Spurs are to progress this season and potentially even win some silverware, Postecoglou will need some more attacking reinforcements, and while signing him permanently would be too risky, bringing in Rashford for six months could be just what the team needs.
So Daniel Levy and Co should do what they can to bring him into the N17 this month, because even if his form stayed the same, he would be an instant upgrade on Werner.
