S. Badrinath furious over Shubman Gill’s performance in BGT 2024-25.

The young Indian top batsman has had a quiet journey Australia with a stick. The team expected Gill to show temperament and disrupt the wicket-taking rhythm of the Australian bowlers. On the contrary, Gill became a walking wicket for the Aussies which further increased the pressure on the middle order batsmen. As a result, the entire Indian batting line-up suffered throughout the series.

Badrinath, while talking to Star Sports Tamilhe pointed out several major problems in Gill’s batting and made a sensational remark about the youngster signaling that talent may not be the only reason for Gill’s persistent selection in the team.

“If this was Shubman Gill from Tamil Nadu, he would have been kicked out,” remarked the former Indian cricketer. Badrinath went on to point out Gill’s sub-par performance in Australia and the youngster’s lack of intent. Badrinath who has featured for the Indian team in seven ODIs, two Tests and one T20I, further emphasized that he wanted Gill to tire the bowlers and make the ball old even if the runs were not coming. But none of that happened in the entire series.

“You can’t go there and say, oh, this is how I play. I will stand and deliver. Whatever you can do, at that time, try to do. I didn’t get that from Shubman in this series. Even on the field he was poor. He could not stay in the slip and point. What does he contribute to the team?” asked Badrinath.

A series to forget for Gill
