Ruben Amorim poses a new challenge to Alejandro Garnach regarding the future of Man Utd
Ruben Amorim has admitted he wants to see improvements from Alejandro Garnach if the Argentina international is to force his way back into Manchester United’s starting line-up.
Garnacho was left out of the matchday squad for the Manchester derby alongside Marcus Rashford last month, but has responded well to the problem behind the scenes and has come off the bench in each of United’s last four Premier League games.
Uncertainty about his future sparked interest from elsewhere, with Napoli understood to be interested in Garnach as they look to replace PSG-bound Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
While Amorim made no secret of his admiration for Garnach’s ability, he suggested that the young winger must adapt to the demands of the new tactical setup being used at Old Trafford.
“He has talent,” Amorim said. “He has to learn to play in a different position. He has to play better inside.
“He makes a lot of progress in the recovery position when he doesn’t have the ball. But doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place for transitions like he was in the past. I prefer to defend and then build with the whole team until the final third.
“He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during practice. He started last game. Let’s see tomorrow. I think he’s changed the way he sees himself.”
Reports suggest United would only accept offers of around £70m to break with Garnacho, whose contract runs until 2028.
