Real Madrid vs Barcelona – Supercopa de Espana: Preview, predictions and lineups

Spain’s Clasico rivals reunite for the 2025 Supercopa de Espana final in Jeddah on Sunday night.

After Barcelona beat Athletic Club 2-0 in the first semi-final on Wednesday night, Real Madrid ended up getting the job done the following evening after Mallorca held on for the first hour. After Jude Bellingham opened the scoring, Madrid cruised to a 3-0 victory to secure a repeat of the final in 2024.

The two have met in back-to-back Supercopa de Espana finals, with Madrid the current holders after beating Barca 4-1 in Riyadh. In 2023, Xavi’s Blaugrana produced a great performance in a 3-1 victory.

It looks like Sunday’s finalists will be fiercely competitive La Liga this term, and this competition could offer a huge psychological advantage for the winner. However, Atletico Madrid, who beat Barca before Christmas, are also in good competition and will be fresh for the rest of La Liga.

Here 90 minutes game guide.

Madrid lined up as expected for their semi-final against Mallorca, but Ancelotti may be more encouraged than his counterpart to make a change with his side in action 24 hours after Barcelona demolished Athletic Club.

If the Italian decides to reshuffle, Arda Guler, Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz will most likely join the team. However, Carletto likely to risk potential burnout for Sunday’s finale.

David Alaba was among the substitutes on Thursday and could be called up here with Aurelien Tchouameni out with a head injury against Mallorca. Luka Modrić was absent last time due to illness and it is unlikely that he will perform.

Real Madrid predicted the line-up against Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Vazquez, Tchouameni, Rudiger, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga; Rodrygo, Bellingham; Vinicius, Mbappe.

Barcelona they have Ronaldo Araujo available in Saudi Arabia but Flick is unlikely to break up his centre-back pairing for Sunday’s final after they kept a clean sheet on Wednesday.

Dani Olmo received a temporary permit to play after his first registration with the club expired at the end of 2024, but the Spaniard will not be involved here. Gavi was used in a more advanced role against Athletic Club and produced an outstanding performance.

Flick’s squad have become healthier in the new year with Araujo and Andreas Christenen returning to the competition, but are still without long-term absentee Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Predicted line-up of Barcelona against Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Foam; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Balde; Casado, Pedri; Yamal, Fermin, Raphinha; Lewandowski.

The previous three winners of this competition have lifted La Liga, although the race at the top looks set to be much tighter this time around. Perhaps the boost gained from the Jeddah triumph will prove to be an advantage when all is said and done.

With both managers unlikely to rotate after their semi-final wins, we could be in for a long-legged final, and the battle could be decided from the bench.

Madrid wants revenge beaten at home in the October Clasico and they should be favored here despite Barca’s measured performance on Wednesday. On big occasions with silverware on the line, Madrid usually gets the job done. They are already chasing their third trophy in the 2024/25 season.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona
