Ben Doak transfer news: Liverpool reject approaches from Ipswich and Crystal Palace for winger on loan at Middlesbrough | Football news

Liverpool have fended off bids from Crystal Palace and Ipswich for winger Ben Doak.

Neither Palace nor Ipswich have come close to Liverpool’s valuation of Doak, currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough.

The Scotland international is said to be one of Palace’s main targets this month, while Ipswich are currently debating whether to make an offer closer to Liverpool’s asking price.

Liverpool also turned down major interest from teams from Europe. The Reds are pleased with the 19-year-old’s progress at Boro and believe he still has a future at Anfield and can play in Arne Slott’s first team.

The 19-year-old won the EFL Young Player of the Month for December and Liverpool believe he is the best player in the division.

The 19-year-old has recorded two goals and five assists in his 17 Championship starts for Michael Carrick’s side and is now attracting interest from the Eagles.

Sam Blitz from Sky Sports:

Ten years ago, nine-year-old Ben Doak played for Ayr United U11s against Hamilton Academicals.

He played in two matches against two different Accies that day and scored nine goals. It would eventually lead him to better things.

Jim Began, Celtic’s chief scout, was watching. At that moment, there was no doubt where Doak was going next.

“I remember seeing Jim on the touchline and I had a feeling he was there to see Ben because he was doing so well and there was so much hype around him,” says Liam Anderson, one of Doak’s coaches at Ayr Utd at that time.

“That day you thought: let’s hope he does well, but not too well. But he was amazing that day.”

A decade after that performance on the seven-a-side pitch, he blasted past Croatia and Man City full-back Joško Guardiola at Hampden Park in Scotland’s colours.

After a sensational international break last month, he assisted on John McGinn’s opening goals in wins against Croatia and Poland. He is now one of the first names on Steve Clarke’s squad list.

And that’s not all. Doak has established himself as one of the Championship’s most exciting players on loan at Middlesbrough – his tantalizing pace wreaking havoc on second-tier defences. Goals and assists are flying.

Parent club Liverpool are watching and with Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Anfield in doubt, Arne Slot may not have to look far for a potential replacement.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says he expects captain Marc Guehi to stay during the January transfer window and hopes the club can also add a few signings during that time

The owner of the palace Oliver Glasner revealed his side were keen to sign two players in the January transfer window, while also hoping to keep hold of the defender Marc Guehi in the club.

“We want to sign two players in two different positions. We have to make deals and that’s the club’s job,” he said, speaking ahead of Palace’s next game at home to Chelsea.

“We have a clear commitment to sign two new players. Let’s not talk about individual names.”

Ipswich safe Kieran McKenna has admitted he wants to bolster their attacking options but has refused to be drawn into it Poor Philogene links.

Sky Sports News reported on Thursday that Philogene is of interest to Ipswich and that the club is monitoring his situation.

“My focus is on the players we have here,” McKenna said. “Of course, we’re trying to add to the team in this window like any team and we want to make the team better, not just for the second half of the season, but for the long term. So we’ll try to do it in the best possible way.

Asked if his side wanted to improve in attack, he said: “I think that’s an area we need to add to. It’s an area we wanted to add in the summer window and then of course we missed out.

“We made some good additions earlier in the summer but we’d still like to maybe add one or two more things over the summer up front and then of course George Hirst has missed the 19 league games we’ve had.

“It’s a big loss, which has put a big burden on Liam Delap as a really young striker. Fortunately, he’s handled that burden well, but we still want to add in different areas of the pitch and we want to add more goals up front if possible .”
