Real Madrid ‘insulted’ Liverpool because of Alexander-Arnold, says Neville – as Sloto defender
Real Madrid “think they can get what they want” and “insulted” Liverpool over Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gary Neville has said.
Reigning Spanish and European champions Madrid are widely reported to have made a move for Alexander Arnold, who joined the Reds’ academy in 2004 but is out of contract at the end of the season.
“The offer is a bad time for him,” former Manchester United captain Neville told Sky Sports after Alexander-Arnold’s defensive display came under scrutiny during his side 2-2 draw at home against the Red Devils on Sunday in the Premier League.
“If you’ve got that, you’re going into a big game and you’re a local boy, it’s not going to be easy, with all the noise. Real Madrid is one hell of an animal.
“I thought it was insulting for Real Madrid to behave like that. Sometimes they act like that and think they can get what they want.”

Slot: Alexander-Arnold ‘didn’t have the best game’
United, who arrived 13 places and 23 points behind the leaderthey concentrated most of their attacks on the flank of right-back Alexander-Arnold, scoring both goals from that side.
The 26-year-old England international was replaced by Conor Bradley four minutes after Amad Diallo equalized with United’s second goal.
“Trent has mostly played good games for this club, but there have been games when he hasn’t been at his best,” Liverpool manager Arne Slot said.
“Today was not his best game, but that was probably because of that [United] as. It also has to do with Bruno Fernandes, who is a very, very good player and played well.

“[Diogo] Dalot was a threat from the left. It is not always easy to prevent them from getting into a dangerous situation.
“Especially in the first half, sometimes Ryan [Gravenberch] he wasn’t close enough [Alexander-Arnold]so sometimes it was a 2-v-1 situation. I would put it down to the quality of Dalot and Bruno Fernandes more than Trent.”
Madrid “takes Mickey”
Former Three Lions right-back Neville said the speculation “wouldn’t be helpful” to Alexander-Arnold. “Liverpool is a huge club and they will never sell it [him] for £20m in January,” he added.
“You’re taking the mickey, a little bit. I imagine that would annoy him. You can imagine his family and his agent all saying ‘what’s going on, Trent?’”
Alexander-Arnold has started 22 of Liverpool’s 24 Premier League and Champions League games in the 2024/25 season.
