Flight and hotel prices in Washington, DC are at an all-time high for Inauguration Day – but for tourists planning to travel to DC after the inauguration, costs are expected to drop.

President Donald Trump it drew crowds from across America who traveled to the capital to witness the historic swearing-in ceremony, with tourists paying inflated prices for transportation and overnight stays.

Searching for flights to DC for the week of Inauguration Day are up nearly 50% compared to the previous week, according to Google Flights search results.

Recent searches on Hotels.com and Booking.com revealed costs for hotel stays in the middle of inauguration week, with prices ranging from $1,000 to as much as $3,000 or more per night. Prices will drop by 50% to 85% at several hotels after January 20.

The average price of a hotel room during the inauguration weekend in DC was approximately $700, while the typical price of a weekend hotel room in the city is about $300.

Last minute flights to the city cost tourists quite a bit, with a round-trip flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, $1,888, and a round-trip ticket from Dallas, Texas, to DC totaling $760.

Compare these prices later this week, with a round-trip flight from Dallas to Washington, DC costing travelers just $180 — meaning the inaugural trip from Dallas alone resulted in an increase of more than 420%.

And, the same flight from Fort Lauderdale to the state capital will cost $323 next week — a 584% drop compared to the days leading up to January 20th.

Flight prices should be down starting Thursday, January 23, with Friday being the cheapest day to fly into the capital, according to search results for upcoming air travel to DC

Hotel prices it will begin to return to its average price on Thursday and reach its normal price average on Friday, similar to the progression of flight costs.

One travel expert says prices should start to drop this week, but some cities may not see a normal return to average costs until early February. (iStoc, according to)

“Flight prices are always going to skyrocket with increased demand. Keep in mind that this is also a holiday weekend on top of the excitement of the inauguration, so we’ve seen an additional increase in attendance as many people have that extra day off,” Kristin Petersen, travel consultant for Travelmation, he shared with Fox News Digital.

“As the festivities wind down and the dignitaries fly home, you’ll start to see travel prices return to normal.”

Prices will vary depending on your location, meaning some cities could be high until next week and possibly return to normal prices by early February, Petersen said.

“When the inauguration was moved inside, they started dismantling the display in front of the Capitol, so you won’t be able to see the remnants of the inauguration,” she explained, referring to travelers currently or soon to be traveling to D.C.

“I suggest you book a tour of the Capitol and see the Rotunda in person, if you plan to visit any time in the future.”
