For Mahomes, the historic season was also one of constant family chaos. His grandfather being placed in hospice care shortly after the birth of his third child is just the latest unfortunate development for his family over the past year.

In March, his brother Jackson Mahomes was sentenced to six months of probation for allegedly assaulting a woman. Jackson pleaded guilty to only one felony count. The verdict came just months after prosecutors dropped three counts of aggravated sexual assault related to allegations he grabbed a woman by the neck and kissed her against her will.

Then, in August, Brittany was thrust into the center of a national political controversy and faced a barrage of online attacks from liberals after she simply liked a post on President Donald Trump’s Instagram. Screenshots of her likes went viral, and she faced so much backlash that she had to address the controversy multiple times in other Instagram posts.

BRETT FAVRE ENDORSES PATRICK MAHOMES FOR PRESIDENTIAL POSITION IN TRUMP VS. THE TAYLOR SWIFT CONTROVERSY

The controversy surrounding Brittany was raised due to her highly publicized friendship with Taylor Swift, as Swift is a Democrat who endorsed Kamala Harris in the recent election. Swift has been seen sitting apart from Brittany at Chiefs games this year after they were often seen sitting together last season, which only fueled controversy and talk of their political differences.

Trump himself further thrust the Mahomes family into the national political debate ahead of the election when he acknowledged Brittany’s support and thanked her on social media and in an interview with Fox & Friends on Sept. 11, while Mahomes was forced to field questions on the topic from reporters later that day. .

Randi also waded into controversy when she announced her support for Trump at a Chiefs vs. Buccaneers game on Nov. 4, just one day before the election. Randi called out liberals on social media for criticizing her and the rest of the family for her support of Trump, but never acknowledged a backlash like Brittany.

Meanwhile, Mahomes’ father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., received a prison sentence and five years of probation in late September for driving under the influence in February. He was sentenced to 10 days in prison with a five-year probationary period, and the first year of probation will be under “intensified supervision”, according to the press release. KCTV in Kansas City.

He also had his driver’s license revoked for a year and must continue AA courses and will have an ignition breathalyzer installed in his car.

For the Chiefs quarterback, all of these distractions came in what was statistically the worst season of his NFL career as a starter.

Mahomes posted career lows in passing yards and touchdowns while missing the Pro Bowl for the first time since taking over the starting job in 2018.

However, that didn’t stop Mahomes from doing enough to lead the Chiefs to their best record in their history, going an incredible 15-2 in the regular season. Despite his struggles in the passing game, Mahomes did just enough each week to ensure his team won all but one of the games he started while dealing with numerous family distractions.

Mahomes’ only loss for the Chiefs this year came against the very team he will play on Sunday, when the Bills beat the Chiefs 30-21 on Nov. 17. The Chiefs’ second loss came in the last game of the regular season when Mahomes sat out to avoid injury and couldn’t get anything going in the order.

Now, with his grandfather in the hospital, Mahomes will take the field for Sunday’s rematch against the Bills with a chance to lead his team to a third straight Super Bowl as he looks to finish off a turbulent but resilient year.
