Jean Smart is pushing TV networks not to broadcast Hollywood awards, instead donate money to help firefighters
Jean Smart urged television networks preparing to host the live awards show not to air the festivities and instead donate funds to help the Los Angeles community amid the deadly wildfires.
Smart, who took home the award at Golden Globes a few days before the fire, she asked on Instagram.
“ATTENTION! With all due respect, during the holiday season in Hollywood, I hope that any of the networks that carry the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT airing them and donating the proceeds to fire victims and firefighters,” the 73-year-old the actress shared January 8.

Hollywood responded to more wildfires raging around Los Angeles The county by postponing several events – including award ceremonies. The Critics Choice Awards, which were scheduled to take place on January 12, have been postponed until January 26.
“This unfolding tragedy has already deeply affected our community,” CCA Chief Executive Officer Joey Berlin said in a statement shared by Fox News Digital. “All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all those affected.”
“The delayed event will remain at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and will be broadcast live on E! and around the world. It will also be available on Peacock the following day.”

Awards announcements have also been delayed for the Oscars and SAG Awards.
Oscar nominations will now be announced on January 19th instead of January 17th.
The delay comes as production is halted for several TV shows, including “The Price is Right,” hosted by Drew Carey, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Behind Midnight”. Universal Studios also canceled a number of series, including “Hacks,” “Ted Lasso” and “Suits LA.”
Movie premieres were also affected by the raging Palisades Fire, which has now burned more than 17,000 acres. Premieres of Jennifer Lopez’s “Unstoppable” and Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” were canceled Tuesday night.

At least five people were killed, and thousands of buildings were burned as fiercely fires raged in Los Angeles area, officials said. Fast-moving flames engulfed homes and businesses as residents fled smoke-filled canyons and picturesque celebrity neighborhoods.
Many of the large fires that broke out on Tuesday were fueled by powerful wildfires Santa Ana windswhich reached more than 70 mph (112 km/h) in some places. Winds eased Thursday, but the National Weather Service warned that even reduced gusts could still spread the fire quickly.
More than 1,900 buildings were destroyed, and that number is expected to increase. More than 130,000 people are also under evacuation orders in the metropolitan area, from the Pacific coast inland to Pasadena, a number that continues to change as new fires break out.
