Newcastle could sign ‘superstar’ replacement Isak for £0

Newcastle United fans will be hoping 2025 is the year they finally see their confident side hold a major trophy, with the Magpies’ last significant silverware on home soil coming back in 1955 when they won the FA Cup.

Sure, they lifted the league title back in 2017, but everyone at St James’ Park would have been jumping for joy just a little longer if they had managed to win the EFL Trophy final, having already beaten Arsenal comfortably 2-0 in the first of their two semi-final legs to give themselves a fantastic chance for a day at Wembley.

With its shape in Premier League also very impressive, with five wins on the trot, everything is looking rosy Eddie Howe’with Toon.

But, as is often the case in football, an unwanted fork in the road can upset teams unexpectedly.

The latest on Isak’s future at Newcastle

In the case of the Magpies, the long-term future of striker Alexander Isak will make them a bit uneasy, with Arsenal and other top clubs reportedly snooping around their star man.

It was even announced that the Swedish ace of the Gunners “first choice” targets when the summer transfer window comes around, with Isak terrorizing Premier League defenses all season with a deadly grab 13 league goals from 18 outings.

Therefore, tying down Isak to a new contract will be a prominent priority very soon alongside the recruitment of new bodies, and Football Insider recently revealed that ‘fresh efforts’ attempts are underway to extend the contract with the 25-year pen.

Unfortunately, the former Real Sociedad player may still be blinded by the bright lights of London by extending his stay, but Newcastle already seem to have replacements in mind should their in-demand Swede make a heartbreaking exit from the building.

Newcastle could land a “superstar” striker for next to nothing

As recently reported, the Toon have one eye on the Lille star Jonathan David who has his own contract issues stemming from the Ligue 1 side.

Indeed, David is out of contract at the end of this season, and with the suggestions of one of his international teammates for Canada, Jonathan Osari, he is a “superstar” strikerNewcastle could show that they are serious about snapping up such a highly regarded striker for nothing as Isak’s best possible replacement.

After all, the clinical 24-year-old is already up 11 goals in Ligue 1 this term of 17 games – just two short of Isaac’s dazzling England total – with David now potentially looking to test himself outside of France in new surroundings to reassert his label as a clinical machine in front of goal.

He is even said to resemble Harry Kane FBref’s tool for similar players– which is a pretty great assessment of David – this comparison only increases the intrigue of Newcastle fans, who find Kane’s dismissal at home ridiculous 280 goals for Tottenham Hotspur before later becoming a threat in the Bundesliga.

While both players, looking at the table above, are clearly successful as forwards who operate as poachers – with minimal attempted passes on offer but a high number of touches in the strikers’ penalty areas – David has the same feel about him as Isak in terms of his mobility, with more successful transfers from Kane at 1.21 per game, with Isak managing 2.66.

Also willing to receive a progressive pass and break forward, David could be the ideal replacement that Howe is looking for if Isak leaves, with Newcastle preparing many contingency plans.
