Cricket Australia confirmed that Kuhnemann was organized by playing the first test in Galle, which he should start next Wednesday, despite the recently dislocating thumb.
The Australian test team arrived in Dubai to prepare for a series with two matches against Sri Lanka. Steve Smith will be the captain’s team in the absence of Pat Cummins. Cummins expects his second child and recovers from ankle pain. Pacer Josh Hazlewood veteran is excluded due to calf injury.

Matthew Kuhnemann sustained injury during the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 for Brisbane Heat against Hobart Hurry on January 16, and then underwent a thumb surgery. His dislocated finger complicated the Australian selection procedure for their bowling attack.

Kuhnemann said he was feeling great and is grateful for recovery over the last week. He stated that his thumb had healed him well after surgery. Kuhnemann added that he was fortunate to be in a position where he could thicken, burn and catch with minimal pain.
“I feel really good, really grateful how it has progressed in the last week,” Kuhnemann told reporters.
“It must be very well, and the surgery went great. So far very happy and happy to be able to bowling and hit and catch a few balls. Everything has gone to plan so far. No more pain.”
